
Jim Adams is a highly experienced firearms instructor with more than two decades of service in law enforcement, military, and public safety leadership. Following his service in the United States Marine Corps, Jim embarked on a 21-year career with the Sierra Vista Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Special Operations Bureau Commander. In this role, he oversaw Major Crimes Detectives, Street Crimes Investigators, and the Narcotics and Evidence divisions.
Jim was a founding member of the department’s Special Response Team and served as the Sniper Element Leader, bringing extensive operational, tactical, and leadership experience to high-risk environments. After retiring from SVPD in 2011, he continued his service as a Crime Scene Investigator with the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and is recognized as a blood spatter analysis expert.
From 2012 to 2016, Jim served as an associate faculty member at Cochise College, instructing within the Criminal Justice program. He also taught at the Military Intelligence School at Fort Huachuca in a gratuitous capacity for 14 years, supporting the professional development of military personnel. In 2020, Jim was appointed Marshal of Tombstone, further reflecting his trusted leadership in public safety.
Jim holds multiple professional certifications, including NRA-certified Range Safety Officer, Arizona POST-certified Firearms and Rifle Instructor, and Arizona Department of Public Safety–licensed Armed Security Guard Instructor. His instruction emphasizes safety, discipline, real-world application, and performance under stress, grounded in decades of operational experience.

Joey Adams
Joey Adams is a biocognitive neuroscientist specializing in post-traumatic stress following brain injury, with deep expertise in how the brain processes stress, decision-making, and cognition under high-pressure conditions. Her academic and professional background informs a trauma-aware, evidence-based approach to training in competitive, defensive, and operational environments.
She specializes in adaptive shooting methods, working closely with injured combat veterans and individuals with diverse physical, neurological, or cognitive needs to develop individualized techniques that support proficiency, confidence, and long-term skill retention. Her instruction bridges neuroscience, stress physiology, and real-world firearms application.
Joey is a Range Safety Officer, an NRA-certified firearms instructor (CCW, Pistol, Rifle, In-Home and Outside-the-Home Protection), and is licensed by the Arizona Department of Public Safety as an Armed Security Guard Instructor.
In addition, she is a tactical jiu-jitsu practitioner and martial arts instructor, emphasizing leverage, control, situational awareness, and composure in close-quarters environments. As a sword-fighting instructor, she trains in katana, broadsword, rapier, and sword-and-dagger, grounded in historical technique, biomechanics, and distance management. She also specializes in martial arts–based stage combat, training performers in safe, precise, and repeatable choreography that balances realism with safety.
Joey co-teaches alongside her husband, Jim Adams, leading church security training and operations with a disciplined, adaptive, and professional approach to safety and preparedness.
